Approach
I began by coming up with all the combinations of rhyming words I could think of, then did a sort of word association game to expand my options. Then after weeding out the options I liked less, I ended on the rhyming pairs Bat Rat and Skunk Punk. I proceeded to have a couple iterations of these designs and after a couples of critique sessions, found these designs to be the most succinct and well executed versions of what I had intended. In my sketches you can see that I started out with a forward facing skunk but then after experimenting found the side profile to be much more interesting. For my Bat Rat sketch I kept being told that my bat wasn't quite rat enough until this final form of this larg chunky rat body and long snakelike tail.
